Testimonials

Isaac is an excellent educator and arranger. He has risen to many challenges in his time with the Govenaires and handled them with grace and a smile on his face. He has the ability to teach all levels, from beginning players to experienced musicians. His music is both challenging and fun to play and he is able to adapt it to the needs of the ensemble. He is a team player who wants what is best for the greater good of the ensemble. In closing, WE LIKE IKE!

Terry Lillis, Director, Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps

I have had the pleasure of learning from Isaac in both my high school drumline, as well as the Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps. I enjoyed having him as a teacher. Isaac has great attention to detail, especially when it comes to technique in the marching percussion world. He was always ale to spot any inconsistencies I had in my playing, and this helped me grow as a percussionist. You can tell that he cares about his students and wants them to succeed. His calm and purposeful personality makes him approachable, and he is always ready for a discussion of anything percussion related. I hope to become a music educator one day, and Isaac sets a leading example for how a teacher should be.

I have known Isaac Sobczak for 6+ years. I joined Fusion Drumline in 2013, moving between instruments such as vibe and snare until I graduated from high school in 2018. Over that time, Isaac has given me private lessons, constructed Fusion Drumline’s shows, written the music and ensemble’s exercises, and instructed the battery and drumline as a whole. More importantly, Isaac has been one of the best mentors I could ask for.
Undoubtedly, Isaac has been one of the most invested teachers I’ve known throughout my education. Isaac writes fascinating music and arranges it so that each part is challenging for each section depending on their level. He has a contagious passion for music, a superior ability to identify and address technical and musical issues in group playing, and a demeanor that makes him approachable to students. As a perfectionist, I often remember being nervous before lessons with various musicians, but never with Isaac. His teaching style is thoughtful, cooperative, and in no way condescending. Having that patience and humor meant that we accomplished plenty during rehearsals, and had fun doing it.
Isaac’s genuine belief that I could become a better player helped me beyond the band room. Isaac frequently referenced movie scores during rehearsal, helped me run through solubility rules for chemistry on our breaks, listened to rants on topics ranging from traffic to college applications, and continued to push us all to have semi-normal sleep schedules. He always encouraged us to put our best show on the floor, but he also motivated us to become capable individuals as we headed past our high school experiences. As an awesome percussionist, detailed composer, and valuable teacher, I am incredibly grateful for everything Isaac has done for my favorite drumline and my own success.
