Release sample controls

Each version of the Garritan Abbey Road Studios CFX Concert Grand includes a set of release samples (for all microphone perspectives), which adds the sound a damper creates as it mutes the piano strings. Release samples are triggered at the appropriate time and volume when you release a key (when your MIDI controller sends a note off message), and are a crucial part of creating a realistic sampled piano.

The Release Volume knob allows controls the volume of the release samples, the Release Crossfade knob controls the severity of the crossfade between the decay of the original note sample and the attack of the release sample, and the Release Decay knob controls the length of the decay of the release sample.

Example: Your recording a very fast, very dense passage in your project, so in order to get a very short staccato sound from the piano, you turn the Release Decay knob and the Release Crossfade knob down until you get the definition from each individual note that you need.

To change the sound of the release samples:

  1. Click the Piano button. The Piano view appears.

  1. Adjust the Release Volume knob, the Release Crossfade knob, and the Release Decay knob until you get the desired sound from your releases.
